We took some pictures on our flight to the UK. The kids weren't impressed and expected something more rocketship-like than the ride a jetliner provides. On our arrival, exhausted, we went out for what young boys love most: pizza. A couple of days later on Friday, we went into London to handle some business for the program Shireen is directing. Following that brief bit of business, we visited a London Fire Brigade station where the men were stunningly helpful with the boys. As if that wasn't fun enough, we then visited the Victoria and Albert art museum and the Dinosaur exhibit at the natural history museum. Whew.

There are great parks around Cambridge. There actually public parks here that have, gasp, unattended swimming pools and playground structures that kids could actually get hurt on! Someone call a lawyer; there's fertile ground here. Shireen's parents arrived, and we all visited the delightful town of Bury St. Edmunds with a few students from the program she directs. You can get more info on Bury here. Let's just say, ancient abbey and Magna Charta and leave it at that. There was an US bomber squadron stationed in Bury during WWII, and around the Abbey Gardens are some really moving tributes to the Yanks. Also, while in Bury we visited the fabulous St. Mary's Church. It is one of the most beautiful churches I've ever seen. The structure is amazing and historic and contributes greatly to the church's beauty, but the friendliness of its people really round out its beauty.

A couple of random, Cambridge pictures. The lovely pictures of the river Cam were taken from the bridge Burrell's Walk that crosses the river.

We went with Shireen's students to visit Stowe Garden and then on to Bath. Stowe Garden was amazing with many structures designed to look like Greek, Roman, and Gothic ruins. Bath was an interesting city, too. Unfortunately, I didn't take many pictures in Bath.

We visited Ely Catherdral in Ely. It was a lot of fun, but my camera battery went dead shortly after we got there. (Outlets here have on/off switches on them, and the kids like to turn them off. So, my camera didn't charge.) There is a great Fish & Chip shop, Hennessey's, in the Ely market.

Traveling from Newcastle, where we spent the night, on to Edinburgh, we stopped to tour Ayton Castle and Hadrian's Wall at Steel Rigg. The boys called the wall Adrian's Wall, confusing the name with that of a family friend.
